ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is Julie Taymor's extravagantly delirious musical featuring over thirty new interpretations of Beatles songs.

Blake Leyh's sound design, probably his most elaborate sound work since The Abyss (1989), includes the sounds of 1960s Liverpool and New York, dancing elephants, the Vietnam War, and one sequence, Strawberry Fields, in which the entire movie theater becomes a death-spiraling plane which narrowly escapes crashing into a mountain.

Athough critical response to the film was exceptionally bifurcated, The New York Times had a review which was very positive but fair.
